Here we shall detail the cybernetics of that are possible in this universe. Unlike the previous two documents that included many details about very specific things, this document shall only provide a brief description of what is possible and enumerate some of the limitations that are in place. This is to ensure creative freedom while also ensuring that an individual with cybernetics cannot simply lift and throw a strike craft. That ability may exist in other works of fiction such as Raiden’s ability to grab, lift, and utilize a blade arm off Metal Gear EXCELSUS in the game Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. That is cool and all, but we would like to maintain some sort of realism. Otherwise there would be no need for combined arms. Just create cyborg soldiers and use them to rip apart entire carriers… Anyway, I digress.
Current cybernetics technology is almost non-existent unless one counts the many different prosthetics that exist. There are, after all, computerized and extremely dexterous prosthetic arms and hands, powerful prosthetic legs and ankles that are able to fully emulate the natural motions of human legs, ocular and cochlear implants, and a myriad of other things. My personal favourite functioning, though not fully developed, prosthetic is the artificial pancreas. Since there are many that have pancreatic issues including diabetes, a prosthetic pancreas would be quite the wonderful idea. After all, diabetes affects many people including quite a few people that I know and love including my father. Another of my favourite is the prosthetic lung though that one is still in works. For soldiers, or anyone really, that may have sustained chest wounds resulting in a damaged or destroyed lung. Another good one is the prosthetic heart that is fully functioning and fully capable and has been successfully implanted in a few select persons around the world. Now this list could go on and on from any of the computerized prosthetics to the implanted chip that a certain female decided to place in her hand to operate her mobile device, but we shall end it there. It is merely just to demonstrate how far along we are in this field and to form a base for which the cybernetics of Acionna’s Sorrow shall utilize.
Cybernetic augmentations in the universe of Acionna’s Sorrow shall include neural implants capable of interfacing with electronic systems. This can be used to either forcefully hijack whatever system may be connected to the electronics system that is being interfaced with or to simply access friendly terminals. The neural implants will also include communication systems that one may use to provide a discreet form of communication and will also include things such as cochlear and ocular implants. Since modern electronic systems, including computerized prosthetics, can be invaded and hijacked a rather high degree, we do prefer that each writer keeps the abilities of each character to a realistic degree. This means that a person cannot simply interface with an information panel and suddenly hijack the propulsion systems of a warship or craft. Computer systems always have methods of securing their processes and in this universe, it is no different. Also, as with all computer systems, these neural implants will create heat thus intensive use will result in overheating of the implant that can result in severe injuries that may be permanent or fatal.
Cybernetic augmentations of muscular systems are allowed to facilitate increase in muscular responsiveness or to replace damaged muscle tissue. The increase in muscular responsive can increase strength, agility, speed, and reflexes, though please we do not want anything excessive. A person capable of running at fifty kilometers an hour will be allowed since that is not too far-fetched. However, someone running at hundreds of kilometers an hour will not be allowed. Likewise, a person that can lift two hundred to three hundred kilograms will be allowed, especially since there already exist some massive mountains of meat known as strongmen that can lift such weights. Thus, it is feasible to see people lifting objects up to six hundred kilograms to maybe their thighs and whatnot. Andy Bolton lifted 457 kg from the floor to his thigh, so it is entirely feasible. We just do not want anyone to be able to lift and throw a car. That is a little ridiculous.
Additional cybernetic augmentations that will be allowed include replacement of internal organs either due to damage of internal organs or out of some other necessity. Please keep all cybernetic augmentations as feasibly realistic as possible. Remember, there is a delicate balance between far-fetched science fiction and realistic science fiction. Try to maintain that balance, or at least try to let it fit in this world.
